Welcome to The Scruffy Dog an award winning pub that started as The Cart and Horse over 300 years ago. The Scruffy Dog is a family run freehouse that has been brought into the 21st century.
The Scruffy Dog is a contemporary, comfortable friendly drinking pub. That's right a DRINKING PUB. The Scruffy Dog is not an eating pub but you will find some tasty snacks on sale behind the bar to nibble on such as crisps, nuts, pork scratchings and chocolate not to mention some good old favourites like pickled eggs, giant pickled onions, Bombay mix and cockles.
Here at The Scruffy Dog you will always find a good selection of mouth watering real cask ales and real still ciders. The hardest decision you will have is which to sample first. There is a good selection of lagers with a guest lager from around the world on offer every month.
The Scruffy Dog has a lovely beer garden with seasonal flowers, seating area and a shelter for those rainy days. In the colder months you will find a real open fire in the snug area with comfortable settees, but do come early as this room fills up fast.
Dogs are always welcome here at The Scruffy Dog with well behaved owners, be sure to bring their pocket money as we have some tasty snacks for sale behind the bar for our furry friends. Take a look at some of our regular furry visitors on our Scruffs page.
In 2015 The Scruffy Dog, then known as The Cart and Horse was awarded, The David Brett Award for best pub serving mild on the Mild Trail! This is something that we take great pride in, as anyone who knows The Scruffy Dog associates it with its fine Real Ales.
So, if you are looking for a friendly, warm, comfortable pub with a difference that is very dog friendly then come along to The Scruffy Dog and see for yourself what we have to offer. Who knows your furry friend could get her/his picture on the visitors page.
Hello, I'm Stuart. I'm the new Landlord/owner of The Scruffy Dog. When we first saw The cart and horse we fell in love with the place, even though it was run down and unloved we saw what it could be. So we took a chance and here we are with our new name The Scruffy Dog. My passion is real ales, my aim is to in time have a microbrewery on site and start brewing Scruffy Dog ales.
Hello, I'm Lindsay, Stuart's wife, landlady/owner of The Scruffy Dog. Or if you wish the hand at the end of the lead. I enjoy nothing more than meeting new people and dogs but also keeping up to date with our regulars. I'm in charge of snacks, goodies and all community activities, as the regulars will vouch for. If you want a pub that no matter when you drop in you will always have someone to chat to then The Scruffy Dog is for you.
Hello, I'm Pedro. I'm a miniature wirehaired Teckel dachshund. The name The Scruffy Dog came from me, so I'm the original scruffy dog as you can see from my picture. My job is head of security and chief snack taster. My aim for the pub is to meet more furry friends to play with. I don't work on the bar very often because my wife django moans when I leave her upstairs with our 3 girls for too long. We also live with Harry the jack Russell she's the oldest so keeps us all in check.
